Jen had never intended to explore the old Langdon house, perched at the end of Shadow Lane like a forgotten specter. Her friends had dared her, of course, insisting that the musty old mansion was perfect for an afternoon adventure. Curiosity gnawed at her until she finally agreed.
The house, with its sagging roof and vine-covered walls, loomed as they approached. A creaky, rusted gate welcomed them into the garden, forgotten by time. Jen hesitated at the threshold but soon found herself swept inside with the rest.
It wasn’t long before they spread out, their voices echoing in the empty hallways. Dust swirled in the beams of sunlight that peered through the cracked windows. The air was thick with the scent of decay and history. As the others explored upstairs, Jen found herself drawn to a door hidden behind a tapestry in the back parlor.
The knob turned with a reluctant groan, and the door swung open, revealing a narrow staircase leading down into the shadows. A chill ran down her spine, but her feet moved of their own accord, descending one step at a time.
At the bottom, she found a small, forgotten study, the air untouched by the outside world. Shelves lined with moldering books filled the walls, and a moth-eaten carpet covered the floor. However, what caught her eye was the table in the center of the room. Upon it lay a wooden Ouija board, its carvings detailed and intricate. The planchette sat expectantly beside it, as if patiently waiting for a curious soul.
Jen’s breath caught in her throat, but the lure of the unknown was too strong. She reached out, her fingers brushing against the board. Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her. Turning quickly, she found herself alone still. Taking this as a sign, she hesitated but then felt a whisper of wind nudge her forward. She sat down, alone in the dim room, her heart pounding.
Clumsily, she placed her fingers on the planchette. “Is anyone here?” she asked, her voice just above a whisper, feeling silly for even trying.
To her surprise, the planchette twitched, then began to glide across the board, settling on YES. Jen gasped but pressed on, her curiosity piqued. “Who are you?” she asked, more confidently this time.
The planchette moved again, selecting letters one by one, spelling out the name EVELYN. Jen blinked, her mind racing. She recalled the tales of the Langdon family — Evelyn had been a young girl who vanished mysteriously, her story whispered through generations.
“What do you want?” Jen asked the board, a shiver tickling her spine. Silence surrounded her, a quietness so profound it felt alive. The board remained still for a moment before spelling out HELP.
Jen’s heart ached with an inexplicable sorrow. “How can I?” she whispered, understanding that somewhere, somehow, this lingering spirit needed peace.
The planchette skated over the board once more, forming a single word: FIND. As Jen pondered this, a floorboard creaked above, jolting her from her concentration. Her friends were still rummaging through the upper floors, oblivious to her discovery.
Determined, Jen continued her exploration, leaving the Ouija board behind but keeping Evelyn’s message close to heart. She ventured further into the depths of the basement, where ancient crates and forgotten heirlooms lay strewn about. It was there she uncovered an old locket, its chain twisted and tarnished, yet it glimmered with a familial resemblance she couldn’t shake.
The locket, upon inspection, revealed the picture of a young girl — Evelyn. Her hair curled perfectly, her eyes bright and vibrant as though taken moments before she disappeared. Jen understood then that this keepsake, lost to time and abandonment, was the connection Evelyn needed.
Returning to the hidden room, Jen placed the locket on the Ouija board. Closing her eyes, she offered Evelyn her silent promise: to keep her memory alive, ensuring she would not be forgotten.
The air shimmered with a gentle warmth, and Jen knew — somehow — that Evelyn had finally found her rest. With a heavy but fulfilled heart, Jen retraced her steps, leaving the hidden room and its secrets behind.
Emerging into the afternoon sun, a sense of quiet victory enveloped her. Her friends found her then, and together they walked out of the shadows of the past, Jen glancing back just once to the house that had given her more than just a fright — it had given her a story, a purpose wrapped in mystery and memory.

I was so surprised when my wife told me she was pregnant.
And as she lay dying on the floor begging me to finish her off, I told her I had to save a bullet for her boyfriend.
“Can I have a picture of you?”, my tinder match asks.
As I responded yes and raised my phone for a selfie, I hear the distinct shutter sound of a camera going off outside my window.
I was startled when the selfie I took had my friend in it, looking like he was being choked.
Seemed like my phone’s AI feature has scanned my photo gallery and has even listened my conversation with his mother about how I really miss him during the past 6 months he was missing.
The other day I noticed my cursor moving on it’s own and didn’t think much of it.
Today I woke up and saw it hastily deleting a video of me sleeping..
I pulled my daughter into the bathroom where I was hiding explaining that I, too, heard my voice calling her from downstairs.
She broke free from my grip and ran out the door screaming, “It’s up here!”
I was so surprised when my wife told me she was pregnant.
We had been the only two left after the apocalypse a few years back, and we were lesbians.
The Reflection
I always thought it was cute when my dog stared at me through the window until I remembered he had been asleep on my lap. Whatever’s outside isn’t my dog.
Shadow
I walked out of the shower and noticed my shadow was gone. Then I saw someone creeping in the corridor, but I heard no steps.
I took a selfie with the old Polaroid camera I found in the attic of our new home, but looked at the photo in confusion when it showed nothing but a charred, burnt corpse.
Disgusted and horrified, I threw the camera at my trash can, only to knock over my lit aromatic candle.
The most cliche ghost possible is a brooding figure shrouded in a white robe
But ever since I left baby Joanne wrapped inside my towel in the sauna, I have been seeing this exact type of figure every night.
Thinking my friend was joking with me while we messed with an ouija board, I asked the board “oh spirit can we see you?”
All I could do was stare as my friend was lifted into the air and was ripped in half, blood outlining a monstrous shape and whispers pounding into my head “can you see me now?”
I was confounded when my friend randomly texted me the words BLOODY MARY, BLOODY MARY, BLOODY MARY
She said she needed someone to pass on the curse, and as I see the bloodied, grimacing figure finally disappear while typing this, I quietly pray for the poor, clueless souls who have read my title.
My sister and I used a ouija board to ask who killed my mother.
I watched my sister’s smile fade as the planchette spelled Y O U D I D

He lay on the grass in his front yard. The sun felt amazing and warm on his skin. The summer warm breeze made the trees smell fresher. He inhaled the air and smiled to himself. Josh sat up and looked at his peaceful new home. This was his first move with his mom after she divorced his father. They were finally able to escape the mental and physical abuse from that monster. Too many years of that pain going on. Now they are happily away from it and trying to live their best life.
Josh is now 17 years old and applying for college already. He was indeed a super smart kid. Kept himself out of trouble through middle and high school. He wanted to go to college to study creative writing. He had a passion for writing horror and mystery. He figures he can start writing a book now because by the time he enters college, he will have something to show for it.
As he sat on the grass he looked at the kitchen window that was facing the front of the house, he saw his mom standing by the window and washing dishes. She looked up and waved at her, he waved back. His eyes shifted to the window, the attic window. The curtain slightly shifted as if someone moved it. His brows furrowed slightly. He looked back at the kitchen window and his mom was still standing washing her dishes. He got up from the grass and walked into the house.
He said hi to his mom and walked up to his room completely disregarding what he saw in the attic. A few hours later, Josh had woken up from a much needed nap to the smell of delicious food being cooked by his mom. He got up and walked out of his room, stopped mid-step and scratched his head. He swore he had closed his bedroom door before he took his nap. He looked around but nothing seemed out of place. Shrugged his shoulders and proceeded down the stairs. Josh heard his mom talking to Someone as he descended down the steps.
“Hey ma, who are you talking to?”, he startled the hell out of her.
“Oh my gosh, you scared me.. I thought you were further than this. I was talking to you the whole time, silly”.
He looked at her will with a very perplexed look. “No, you weren’t, I just woke up and came downstairs”. “So then who the hell was I talking to? Whoever it was, sounded just like you.” her eyes furrowed. “You’re going crazy ma, what’s for dinner?” He sat down with his mom at the dining table and enjoyed dinner..
Part 2..
Josh excitedly opened the mailbox and pulled out four letters that were in there. He shuffled through the mail and found what he was looking for. He had submitted an application to a college he desired to attend. He ran inside and bumped into his mom. He showed her the envelope and they opened it together..
“Yess!” Josh cheered with excitement. He got accepted into the school of his dreams. He will, one day, become a great author. His mom was happy but saddened quickly because her baby boy was becoming an adult already. She hugged and kissed him with tears in her eyes. They celebrated by dancing and jumping around. “
Let’s go out to dinner and celebrate. Call some of your friends and we’ll go to your favorite wing spot.” Josh ran up the stairs and got on his phone to make some calls.
Josh and his mom had a great evening celebrating the accomplishment. As his mom was pulling up to their house, Josh noticed something strange. Once again, he saw someone in the attic window. Well, not exactly a person but something moving the curtain.
Josh’s mom opened her car door and stepped out. Josh ran to her side and held her arm. “I just saw something strange in the window. I’m going to check inside first.” He looked at his mom, pleading for her to stay outside by the car. “Please be careful”.
Josh slowly walked up the steps to the front porch. The front door was still locked. He opened it up, it was eerily dark as he walked in. He walked in and was able to see his breath in front of him.”Why the hell is it cold?” he thought to himself. He looked around and found nothing out of place, at least not downstairs. He walked towards the stairs and his head abruptly looked up to the sound of a door slamming. When he looked up he saw a shadow of a man standing at the top of the stairs. Josh’s heart skipped a beat, almost pissed his pants. The Shadow took one step down and Josh turned around and ran out towards his mom.
“There’s someone inside, it looked like a man”. Josh opened up the trunk of his mom’s car and took out a bat. He ran back into the house ready to attack whoever it was. He walked upstairs, slowly with his bat at hand. He stood at the top of the stairs ready to swing away. The long hallway was dark but there was some sort of pressure. A scary pressure. His eyes skimmed around, getting adjusted to the dark.
A door at the end of the hall slowly creaked open. It was his bedroom door.
“Josh!” his mom called out from downstairs. He turned around to respond but was abruptly shoved by some force.. He held onto the banister of the stairs so he wouldn’t fall. His bat rolled down the stairs, each drop made a metal clink sound. His mom ran to the stairs and saw that her son was nearly falling but also saw this dark figure standing over him. “Leave him alone,” she yelled. The dark figure perched its head to look at her and quickly descended down the stairs. She had no time to react. The figure entered her body. She paused for a moment. Josh regained his balance. “Mom?” he whispered. She looked up at him. The bones on her neck crackled and popped. She stared at him , her eyes darkened. She grinned, her teeth were sharp ,yellow.
“Mom?” he whispered again. This time with tears in his eyes. His mom started to bleed from her eyes, nose, and mouth. Her then bloody grin became more malicious. Then the worst happened. Her body began to contour itself. All her bones and limbs started pulling apart. The screams of agony that came from Josh’s mom were terrifying. The pain she felt was indescribable. In one quick motion, his mom’s body exploded.
Her blood splattered all over Josh’s face and clothes. He was in shock. He couldn’t move, or talk. He couldn’t believe what he just witnessed. On his face, the flashes of red and blue lights glowed. Sirens were heard but he heard them really far.
He just sat there on the steps, staring at nothing… and then his eyes turned black just like it happened to his mom.
The Police barged into his house, guns drawn and ready to shoot. Two officers saw and approached Josh. They looked at the mess around him and nearly threw up. The blood started to smell like metal.
The Police pointed their guns at a traumatized-looking Josh. He slowly stood up, hands above his head. An officer towards Josh, while the other one pulled out his handcuffs to detain him. The officer stood behind Josh, reading him his Miranda Rights,. And then he abruptly stopped.
A choking sound came from behind Josh. The other officers kept their guns drawn and slowly walked around Josh. The first officer was choking on his own blood. The sharp part of the handcuff ruptured the officer’s jugular vein. He lost so much blood he collapsed on the floor and started to go into Convulsions. The second officer’s eyes widened and he witnessed the terror of his partner losing his life.
He rapidly drew his gun up at Josh again, but he was no longer standing by him. He vanished. The officers looked around for him. The officers took a glimpse down at the floor and realized a strange shadow looming over him. He quickly looked up and saw a shadow run into the second floor, a door slammed and now it was dark. The officer’s hands were trembling as he slowly walked up the stairs.. He stopped when he heard running and then another door slammed.
His heart was racing, nearly coming out of his chest. He took a big gulp of air and tried pacing his breathing before he continued up the stairs. He made it to the top. It was completely dark up there. He was beginning to adjust his vision when he saw Josh’s shadow running towards him. The officer pointed his gun and shot at Josh. One shot to his leg. He abruptly stopped running. He screeched in pain and fell to the floor.
“Help me” he slowly whispered to the officer. He ran to Josh’s side to check on him. Big mistake. Josh grabbed the officer sunk his teeth into his face and tore out his right eye. The officer Screamed bloody murder. Josh climbed on top of the officer and beat him profusely, tearing him apart limb by limb until he wasn’t mobile anymore.
Josh rose from the floor, his eyes dark and concentrated on his surroundings. He heard more officers in front of his house and surrounding the premises. He slowly walked back into his darkened bedroom and shut the door.
College Fall Semester
“Its Spooky Season and this is when our initiation starts: One of the boys from the fraternity spoke out loud. “Tonight you will be stepping foot into Tuesday’s house”.
“What the hell is Tuesday’s house?” The potential soror asked.
“Oh!” the frat leader chuckled. “You haven’t heard of Tuesday’s house”
“Umm no”
“Well,” the frat leader started pacing around with his hands behind his back.
“That house”, he cleared his throat, “is haunted by this guy who was supposed to attend this college this semester. The short-lived legend says that he murdered his own mother and a squad of police officers all on a Tuesday night after celebrating his admittance to this school.
“The police entered his home and none were ever to be seen again. The frantic, agonizing screams were heard outside the home. In the morning more officers and news reporters were outside his home and saw the bloodshed left behind by the guy.
“What was the guy’s name?
“His name Is Josh Marte. No one has found him. It is said that he’s still inside the house. The potential soror looked nervous. He took a big gulp of air, his palms were sweaty.
“Guess who is spending the night there?”… Silence.
“Oh hell no, not me”.
“Oh yeah you are. You’ll be spending the night alone and you’ll be streaming the whole night on this video camera. We’ll be watching from here on this screen so you basically won’t be alone”. The frat leader grabbed the potential soror by the shoulders and looked him in the eyes. “I have faith in you man, you got this”.
The sorrow shook his head. “What the hell am I doing here?” he thought to himself. On the drive to the haunted house, the soror was nervous as hell sitting in the back seat. He was biting his bottom lip and his nails. He flicked a piece of nail and it landed on one of the other boys. “Dude!” the other boy exclaimed.”Sorry, my fault”.
They came to a sudden halt in front of-Tuesday’s house. He then realized they weren’t far from the Sorority house, Just maybe two blocks. If he needed to escape it wouldn’t be too far to go back. From the frat car came some of the frat boys.
“What’s his name?” A pretty boy, dark brown hair, short Caesar haircut, fresh white t-shirt and shorts came out of another car asking about the new guy.
“My name’s Jeremy”
“Hmm Jeremy, nice to meet you, Kid. You ready for this?”
“No” Jeremy chuckled.
“But it is what it is” Jeremy stood in front of the house facing the door, camera in hand ready to record. His hands were trembling. “Good luck kid, we’ll see you in the morning, maybe”.
They all chuckled after that comment. Jeremy’s eyes widened. The frat boys got back into their cars and drove off, leaving Jeremy standing on his own. He turned on the camera. The red light turned on as well. He turned the camera to himself. “Hope you guys enjoy this cause I know I won’t. He sighed. “Here goes nothing”. Jeremy raised the camera and pointed it towards the house door. The porch itself looked creepy.
Cobwebs, broken glass, loose floorboards, and it’s only been a couple of months that this guy has been missing. He walked towards the door and pushed it open. It slowly Creaked.
It was Very dark and smelled like… it smelled like sulfur, like old blood. His stomach turned to knotts as he walked in and closed the door behind him. Jeremy looked around, trying to adjust his vision to the dark. He then remembered he had a flashlight in the backpack he was given. As he’s taking the flashlight out of the backpack he hears a sound coming from the right side of him. He turned on the flashlight and swung it towards the right. He was illuminating the living room. but he saw no movement.
He slowly walked towards the living room entrance, panning the flashlight slowly across it. Something moved but he wasn’t quick enough to see what it was. “What the hell was that?” The camera was trembling in his hands as he circulated the room.
Nothing.
He took a deep breath and proceeded to walk around the rest of the house.
At the frat house, the frat boys watched intently what Jeremy was broadcasting through the camera.
“This is already too funny to watch. He has no idea this is a setup.” The boys continued watching as Jeremy walked up the stairs because he heard a sound coming from a room. He panned the camera going up the steps, the frat boys jumped back at a shadow that ran towards the camera and made Jeremy drop it. They were all laughing. “Oh man, Justin did a great job with that jump scare,” another one of the frat boys said while holding his stomach.
The front door to the frat house swung open and in walked Justin.
They were confused.
“What are you doing here?” the head frat boy asked. “Uhh, I came to chill with you.” Justin looked confused too.
“We told you to go hide at Tuesday’s house so you can scare the new kid.”
“Oh shit, I forgot about that. I’ll go now”.
“No, don’t. Someone’s already there.” A panicking scream was heard from the live-stream. They turned their heads towards the monitor. The camera was lying sideways on the floor. And suddenly saw Jeremy’s body being dragged across the floor.
“If you’re not there, then who is?”
“I have no idea but I think I need to go there now!”
The frat boys ran out of the house and into their cars.. They sped Over to Tuesday’s house. Before the cars came into a complete stop, some of the boys leaped out and ran towards the house. One of them tried turning the doorknob but the door was locked. They heard an agonizing scream.
They couldn’t get in. Busting down the door wasn’t helping, the door-wouldn’t budge.
Another frat boy ran around to check for any open windows or doors but nothing. Again, an agonizing scream. This time it seemed like it was his last scream. The boys all stood in front of the house, sweating and scared.
Out of nowhere the door slowly opened.. A silhouette stood in the darkness. The boys squint their eyes to see inside . Jeremy stepped out from the darkness onto the porch. His appearance seemed dark. His clothes were bloody. His arms were full of scratches, open wounds gushing blood. His eyes, they were black, his grin was menacing.
“Hey guy’s, you all can come inside now”. He grinned widely, his teeth full of blood. He laughed while standing there looking at them. The frat boys all looked at each other and ran back to their cars.
While inside, their car doors locked on their own. Cars turned on. The guys were freaking out, and tried turning off the cars but it wasn’t working. The frat leader tried moving the wheel, breaks and gas to no avail. Both cars were now facing each other screeching, . Wheels making marks on, the pavement.
Jeremy’s hands were up in front of him, controlling the cars as if they were wind-up toys. He pulled the cars back and then let them go at the same time. The cars raced towards each other. The boys in the cars were fearfully screaming as the cars drew closer and created a large explosion as they crashed.
Jeremy stood there looking at the fire he created. Behind him, Josh was standing there, smiling an evil smile. He touched Jeremy on the shoulder and stepped back into the darkness of the house as the door closed.

When you drive into Deadwood city, you feel the dryness and dread. You see all the old abandoned homes and buildings falling apart… It looked the ancient civilization. Don’t get me wrong, the place once upon a time looked magical, beautiful. In the center of the city sat a beautiful water fountain surrounded by colorful flowers, green tall trees and bushes. Benches to also sit on. It looked monumental, a landmark. People picniced there all the time, children playing, music, live bands, excitement all over the place. What happened to Deadwood you may ask? Something terrifying took over and it has never left. It came from the pits of hell. It rose from down below and came from above one night, we thought it showed up without reason but there was indeed a reason.
The Sinister stood at one thousand six hundred and sixty six feet, a little smaller than the skyscraper in New York City but still very tall. It’s currently abandoned, condemned. The Sinister used to be an amazing work place for many. It had a variety of different offices from computer companies to car dealership’s, coffee shops and restaurants. It also had a music studio. A movie studio and a dance studio. Of course every big place must have something creepy about it.
Down below in the basement there was a funeral parlor and next to that there was a large morgue. Like I said, this was an amazing work place for many.
Now to the point of my story.
One night a group of kids, about four of them, broke into the Sinister. Javion, Camori, Makahi and Everis were test friends trying to enjoy summer vacation right before entering Eighth grade. They all snuck out their homes and met up two blocks away from The Sinister. They all shook hands and proceeded to walk towards their location. The city looked different at night. Real quiet, real dark and real lonely. They approached the building and turned a corner. One of the boys, Camori, walked up to a wooden board that was propped up against the building and moved it over.
There was an opening behind it. He looked at his friends, looked at the entrance and walked in. They all followed him. It was dark. They turned on the flashlights on their phones and cautiously walked around, shining their lights all over. They didn’t know what exactly they were looking for but they definitely had a lot to look through. They walked around tables, climbed over chairs that were thrown all over due to other people breaking in and loitering inside. There were papers, files, and electronics scattered on the floor. Javion tapped Makahi on the shoulder and told him to look down the hall he was looking down too.. Makahi’s face shrugged and then he tapped Everis on the shoulder and told Everis to do the same.. Down that corridor was Camori standing, looking at the double doors that were sealed with yellow caution tape. They walked to a stand next to Camori. Javion walked towards the glass of the door ans peeked in. The lights flickered on the other side. Everis looked up and pointed at the sign above the doors. ‘The Morgue’ is where they were headed. They all looked at each other and took a deep breath. Makahi pushed the door open, looked inside and closed the door back up. His face turned pale. Camori walked to the door and pushed it as well. He peeked in and gasped. “It’s a body”were the only words he was capable of speaking. Javion being always the bravest one out of all of them, Just walked into the
morgue. “The body can’t do anything to you, it’s dead.”. They entered this dark, cold, eerie room. In the center of the room was the table with the body they saw. The body was covered with a white blanket. The walls behind the table were covered in white chipped plaster. There was one window up top with another window covered with what looked like an exhaust fan. On the darker side of the room were half sized doors on the wall. Those were the freezers where the dead bodies were put after an autopsy.
Shivers went up their Spines as a light flickered. The boys were walking around, rummaging through papers and files. Camori found another door that led into a smaller office. He tried opening the door but something was blocking it. He pushed and pushed until whatever was in the way fell over and made a loud crashing sound. The other boys nearly jumped out their pants. “My fault”, Camori apologized to them. He squeezed into the small opening and into the small room. It was an office. It was a mess there. The desk was flipped over, the cabinet was tilted against the wall, the drawers open with paper spilling out. The window was broken, the breeze outside was eerily chilly, too chilly for a warm Summer night. On the opposite side of the window was a smaller file cabinet with two drawers is it.. The small cabinet looked untouched. Not even a hint of dust on it. Camori tried to pull the cabinet drawer doors open. He pulled and pulled to no avail.
He looked around the office for some sort of key. He had to look well because it was definitely a small key. On the other side were the other boys still looking through papers. Their focus wasn’t on the body that was slowly breathing on the autopsy table. Everis was staring at the freezer doors, ready to curiously open one. He slowly approached one of the doors and left his hand to reach for the handle. Everis turned his focus on the double doors they all walked through. There he saw a tall human shadow standing behind the glass.
“Guys, we’re not alone” Everis stuttered. The Shadow backed away from the door and disappeared before the others even saw it. They all looked at him and shook their heads. Everis looked back at the door and what he saw was no longer a shadow. It was a man of average height. His skin was pale, glossy. gray. The man had an empty eye socket while the other eye was bloodshot red. The man waved at Everis, his grin was malicious. Everis looked at his friends and they were focused on the body that was on the autopsy table. It was breathing a little faster now.
Camori finally found the key and had opened the small file cabinet. He found only one item in the drawer. It was an old, thick book called ‘ The Book of They’. “Weird name for a book” he thought to himself. He opened it and a rush of cold air filled the room. “What the hell?” he looked around .. the room and saw nothing. He turned the pages of the book and saw the most unimaginable things: ‘The Book Of They’ holds unholy, unnatural, un-human beings. It holds mortuary rituals to raise the dead from beyond the grave and demons straight out of hell.
Camori kept turning the pages. Above the skyscraper, a dark cloud was forming. The city was darker than normal. Red sky all around. The air smelled putrid. The ground began to shake as Camori kept reading and turning the pages. Inside the boys started to panic. They began running and ducking under tables and stretchers. Camori grabbed the book and ran out the room with it. The boys ran out of the morgue screaming. The freezers opened up and out of them crawled the corpses. They screeched loudly and ran after the boys. They pushed through a door and ran up the stairs. The corpses were right on their tails. The ground shook some more, a bit stronger. The corpses feel over the railing of the steps and hit the banisters going down. They got up, shook themselves off and ran back up. The boys were now reaching the 13th floor. They ran into a room and slammed the door shut.
“What the hell is going on?” Makahi was barely able to talk.
“I did Something stupid” Camori was trying to catch his breath. ” “What are you talking about?” Javion asked, confused.
Camori pulled the book from under his shirt. “I found this book down in the office in the morgue. I opened it and I don’t think I should have.” They all looked perplexed.
“It’s called ‘The Book Of They’ and I think ‘They’ were the things that were chasing us. I think I opened up something I wasn’t supposed to.”
“Are you freaking serious right now?” Everis voice became high pitched.
“Shhhhh! your damn voice” Makahi whispered while ducking low. They heard a noise. Someone was moving around outside in the hallway. The boys found hiding places.
The door opened up slowly and closed with a thud. They heard something sniffing, slowly pacing around looking for something, looking for them. It was crawling on all fours. Its skin was milky gray, it looked like rubber. It had patches of stringy hair covering its head and face. Teeth were sharp and yellowish brown, rotten. It smelled like pure death.
One of the boys made a noise. The creature jerked his tread towards the pound and snarled. It was moving towards Everis, sniffing him out, it began to drool out of its mouth. Camori got out of his hiding spot and yelled.. “Hey Ugly!, come get me instead.” He ran out of the room at full speed. The creature screamed and ran after him. Camori ran down a long corridor, through another door and up some stairs.
He ran past floor 10… 11… 12… 13… He burst through the exit door and ran down the corridor and into another room. He closed the door and shut the lights off. He ran into a dark corner and waited. His chest was burning.
“Are we safe?’ Makahi whispered. Javion peeked his head out from a closet. “Yeah, we’re good. We gotta find Camori and get out of here cause this shit is getting crazy.”
“I’m scared, what the hell was that thing? Everis asked, “I don’t know, just know that Camory saved your life.” The boys regrouped and quietly walked out of the room. They took their phones out and turned on their flashlights. The hallways were dark and cold although it wasn’t cold outside. It felt different there, nothing seemed normal. As they climbed the steps looking for Camori, they walked by a window. What they saw terrified them. Their world has changed. Theis sky was red, the air was foggy and what looked like people were walking around, gathering in front of The Sinister, coming out of the ground.
“What the hell is going on?” : Makahi had a worried, confused expression.
“Shhh, someones coming.” They ducked down into a room and closed the door. “Hey guys!” they heard a loud Whisper. They turned around startled and grabbed their chest. It was Comore standing in one of the corners of the dark room. “Camori!” They whispered excitedly. They huddled and hugged each other. “We have to get out of here. The only way we could get away from those things is by burning this book but we have to climb up all the way to the top of the skyscraper because the portal is right above it.”
“So you mean to tell me that we have to go back into that staircase with those things chasing us and making it up to the top without getting killed?” Everis freaked out. “Yup.” Camori grabbed a stick from the floor. “Let’s go.” Again they turned on their phone flashlights and slowly walked the halls. Their steps crunched over broken glass. Makahii rushed up against Javion. “Yo what are you doing?” Javion whispered while nudging him back. “I heard a whisper in my ear, it called my name.”. Javion looked at Makahi, perplexed.
Something tugged in Makahi’s t-shirt and caused him to scream. Suddenly all the boys were thrown across the hall and slammed against the wall, landing on the shattered glass.”What the…?…
“RUN” they ran up the stairs..
“Go, go, go…” Something was chasing them again. The doors were pening as they reached each flight of stairs. Invisible forces reached out to grab them. They felt hands on their bodies trying to grab them. They ducked and dodged from the unseen.
They finally made it to the top. They rushed out the roof door, slammed it shut and fell to the floor out of breath. Wicked screams were hoard coming from behind the closed door. . “Where is the book?” Everis yelled through the screams. Camori pulled the book out from under his shirt and tried to open it. It wouldn’t open. They simultaneously tried opening it and it wouldn’t budge. “What kind of stupid book is this?”
BANG! the door slammed open but all they saw was darkness. A dark void filled the doorway. A dreaded energy come from within.Camori grabbed the book, tears filled his eyes. He was afraid. His tears fell upon the cover of the book, the book seemed to unlock and open up. He was caught off guard and threw the book. Javion caught the book.
The rest surrounded him.. “Who has a lighter?” They searched their pockets and Makahi pulled out a lighter. They stared at him in disbelief. “Light the book.” He yelled. They were surrounded by complete darkness now. Everis tried turning on the lighter but it wasn’t going on. “Flick, flick, flick” The darkness was getting tights around them. The sounds of “They” were getting closer, louder.. It was getting hard to breathe. Javion snatched the lights from Everis and flicked it.
It lit up! He pressed the flame on a few pages and the book quickly lit up. Black smoke emitted from the book. They began to scream again. All the spirits, the dead, began to fly by the boys causing a tornado of bodies and souls and up to the red portal in the sky.
Lightning, thunder and rain suddenly came from the now brightening sky. The boys stood on the rooftop looking down at the remains that were disappearing back into the ground.
“Did we just experience a mini apocalypse?” Everis asked.
“I think we just did, thanks Camori you almost killed us”… Javion put his arm around Camori and walked back into the building
“You’re welcome, at least we’re all alive..”
Off they went into the horizon, away from The Sinister and the madness within … never to look back again.
Back at the rooftop..
A dark shadow lurked up top.
The book was restored from its ashes. The shadow covered it with black smoke and took “The Book of they” away.
The End!
or is it…?

Aura walked into the library to return two books she read during spring break. She was always into the romance novel stuff but this time she wanted something different, more thrilling. She went into thriller/ horror fiction and browsed the selections. She browsed through S.King, J. Patterson, D. Koontz and many more.
An hour later, Aura had a small stack of books in her arms and was walking towards the check out. She walked down the aisle and something just stood out to her on one of the shelves. It was a bright red medium sized book, pretty thick and old.
She stood in front of the book shelf trying to reach for the book. She put her books down on the floor and took a step on to the first shelf. She tiptoed and the tips of her fingers brushed the
bottom of the book. Aura climbed a little higher, pulled the book out and stepped off the shelf, landing on her butt. She got up, rubbed her butt a bit and looked for the book. It was already open. She picked it up and was intrigued with what she saw. The pages were old and dirty, a bit on the dingy side. The lines on the pages were a bit faded under the hand writing. It wasn’t ancient but maybe from the early 2000’s. She skimmed through the book and stopped on a page with a journal entry.
Date: January 8, 2001
Dear Journal:
I’m still hearing that tapping sound. I can’t figure out for the life of me where it’s coming from. It is so damn annoying. I’m going to try and get some rest. Ttyl.
Nessa
Aura turned the page. Another journal entry.
This one was a little bit longer. She sat down on the library floor and continued reading.
Date: January 10:
Dear Journal:.
The tapping kept me up most of the night last night. I’m extremely tired but I still can’t sleep. I hear it again. The tapping is getting closer and a bit louder too.
Today when I came home from work I found some items misplaced. My kitchen cloth wasn’t on the ledge of the sink, it was on the floor. I also left my coffee mug on the kitchen counter and I found it on my night table in my bedroom. I know, it’s minor things that maybe I did myself and don’t remember but I’m quite sure I didn’t do it.
I don’t know what’s going on but i’m pretty creeped out. If anything else happens i’ll make it sure to come back and write it.
Nessa.
Aura was intrigued by this book. She kept on reading. She turned the page. It skipped a few days.
January 15, 2005
Journal,
“It’s been a few days, a few terrifying days actually. I think I have a poltergeist in my home. But I think there’s more here than just that. The knocking keeps getting louder, now the knocks come in threes.
The last knocks I heard came from my closet. I tapped it shut and covered it with crosses and sprayed holy water all over. it. I don’t know if that will keep whatever is in there away from me but let’s hope for the best.
3:35AM – “I’m so scared. There’s scratching sounds coming from inside the closet. There’s something downstairs too. I heard a lot of commotion.
I asked my friend to stay over because I didn’t want to be alone but she’s regretting being here. I don’t blame her but at least someone believes me and doesn’t think I’m crazy. Something crashed and broke downstairs. My friend looked at me, got off the bed and checked what was going on. She leaned closer to the bedroom door and put her ear to it.
Nothing, not a pound was heard. She was about to turn the knob when it started to shake and turn on its own.”
Aura got chills. She was so into this book that she hadn’t realized that the library was almost closing and it was beginning to be dusk. (In between the bookshelves there was something lurking in the dark and it was watching her.)
Aura turned the page…
January 18, 2001
“Journal,
I came in from work and my home was a complete disaster. I called the cops. They searched inside the house and the outside perimeter and found no signs of a break in. No forced entry, no broken windows. They said they’ll stick around the area for awhile just to be sure no one is around.
I started cleaning the mess that was made with frustration until I heard a noise coming from upstairs. I thought someone was in the house so I grabbed a weapon and walked quietly up the stairs. I searched every room but didn’t find anyone. I don’t know what’s going on but I’m really Scared.
Nessa
Aura sighed and closed the book. She looked up and realized that most of the lights were off and the library was only quiet.
“Oh my gosh”
She got up, grabbed all her books and rushed to the checkout counter to then realize that no one was there. She looked around confused.
“Where is everyone? Hello!” she yelled. She walked to the door and pulled the handle. Locked.
“What the hell?” she whispered. She turned to face the library and thought she saw someone.
“Hello?! “She walked a few feet but didn’t see anyone. She heard a sound coming from behind her, a rustling of papers on the check-out table but there’s no wind coming from anywhere.
A Sheet of paper fell at her feet. Aura picked it up and read it. “Stop reading”. She raised-an eyebrow. She turned and yelled. “Who’s here?” a hiss came from the darkness of the bookshelves and she ran in the opposite direction. ‘ “Shit” she noticed she left her bag which had her phone inside. She went back to grab it. That was a bad idea.
When she went back all her belongings were thrown across the front of the library but her phone was nowhere to be found. She searched and searched but couldnt find it.
Her phone was ringing. She looked around to see if she could find it but couldn’t see it. As she walked closer to the bookshelves she heard the ringing getting louder.
“Where is it dammit? “She whispered. She couldn’t believe this was happening to her. But why? Why was this happening especially while being stuck in a library? All alone, in a dark eerie library, nowhere to go and now her phone is ringing somewhere in the darkness of this cold place. Aura creeped in between two shelves. She saw a dim light shining up above a shelf.
“You gotta be kidding me. How the hell my phone got up there?” She spoke to herself. As she stood at the bottom looking up at the shelf she heard a low growl coming from behind her. She was startled and quickly climbed up the shelf to reach her phone lend to get away from whatever was there.
As she climbed up she felt something trying to grab her feet. She screamed and tried kicking it. Aura reached the top of the bookshelf. she climbed on top, out of breath and reached for her phone. She turned on the flashlight and searched around. Nothing. Catching her breath she laid her head in one arm and extended her hand out and felt something thick. She quickly moved her hand and shone the flashlight to it. It was the Journal she’s been reading. She was about to reach out for it when it flipped open and the pages started to turn rapidly on their own. The pages stop turning. It was open on a page where the letters stood out really big.
This is my last entry.
It’s out to get me now. –
is out because I’ve been talking about it. I gave it more life.”
Aura had chills up her body. She couldn’t believe what she was reading.
“Whoever is reading this, you have to get rid of the demon.. You have to destroy this Journal so it doesn’t exist on this earth anymore. It’s too late for me. It’s already here. I don’t have a lot of time.
Burn it, Burn it Now!!!
The bookshelf moved a little bit while Aura was still sitting up top. She grabbed onto the ledge of the shelf to sturdy herself.. Something was slowly climbing up.
“Holy Crap” She whispered. Whatever was crawling up was coming up the left side of the shelf.
She looked down to the right side, it was definitely a long way but she had to make it down somehow. She put her phone in her jeans pocket, grabbed the journal in one hand and began to climb down the bookshelf. She felt the shelf tilt and sway back and forth. She tried balancing but slipped and dropped all the way to the library floor.
Aura landed on her side and the Journal was open again. She grunted in pain as she sat up to grab the journal. As she reaches for it she watches words form on the pages.
Run! Now!
Her adrenaline rushed as soon as she heard a whisper by her ear. She grabbed the journal and ran. She ran through the book-filled , darkened corridors as something chased her down and knocked every book from the shelves as she ran by. As she approached the front of the library, she saw her bag laying on the floor. The entity that was chasing Aura kept calling out to her, whispering her name over and over. It wanted her to listen, it wanted her to stop running from it. It chased her while the rows of books kept falling. The sounds of whispers and sneers were all around her. Chills ran down Aura’s spine as she ran damn near out of breath.
She did a baseball slide, managed to grab her bag and slide right under a table. She dug her hand inside searching for something to help destroy this journal. The entity was getting closer. The library kept progressively getting darker as it approached her. She found it, she found what she was looking for. A lighter. She tried flickering it but it wouldn’t turn on.
“Oh my God, turn on! “, she screamed at the lighter. Aura looked up and saw the library getting darker and darker. She kept fumbling with the lighter until it finally turned on.The entity forcefully flipped the table Aura was under, she nearly jumped out of her skin. The lighter flew out of her hand and landed a few feet away. She grabbed the journal, rolled on the floor and landed on her back.. The dark entity was right above her. She could feel its dark presence. It smelled like sulfur. Black smoke floated around the perimeter of it. It Snarled, she gagged. She was terrified but she had a job to do.
She looked over and the lighter was at arms reach. She tried scooting over but the entity followed her. She noticed that her keys were right beside her and remembered that evil spirits are afraid of things that are made from silver. Something she read in another book. She grabbed the keys and threw it at the entity.
The entity screeched and vanished into black dust. Aura grabbed the lighter, lit up the journal and it went into flames.
The library was swarmed with black smoke, papers and books. Aura covered her head and ducked down.
Suddenly everything stopped, books dropped to the floor, papers slowly glided down too and the library got much brighter, the atmosphere felt lighter and the evil was gone. Aura picked up her head, swiped her hair off her face with a sigh of relief. The burned Journal fell out of nowhere in front of Aura. She was startled and pushed herself off the floor, grabbed her belongings and ran out the library while the librarian opened the door to come into work. The librarian looked confused. Aura looked back and said
“Whatever you do, DON’T OPEN THAT RED BOOK”..
Aura ran but suddenly had the urge to stop. She looked back and faced the library. In one of the windows was a silhouette of a woman, waving at her. she picked up her arm to wave back as she stared in awe.
“Nessa,” she whispered. She realized Nessa wrote those messages while being stuck in the library.
A big dark shadow came up behind Nessa, wrapped its arms around her and dragged her back into the darkness.
“Oh shit” Aura clutched her purse and ran off away from the library.
-
5am – the alarm clock goes off. He slides out of the covers from his bed. He sits hunched over places his elbows on his knees and rubs his bald head with both hands. He moves down to his eyes, rubs the rest of his face, and strokes his beard.
He stands and walks past his full length mirror. A dark reflection stands in the dim lit bedroom but he doesn’t notice it. He walks into the bathroom, turns on the shower, lifts up the toilet seat and goes about his business. He shakes and flushes. He steps into the shower and lets the water fall on his head. The bathroom door slowly closes.
His ears perked up. He thinks he sees something moving on the other side of the curtain and rapidly slides them open. Nothing.
He once again lets the water run over his head, exhales a deep breath, and lathers up. He caught chills down his back as he felt a cool breeze come from nowhere. He slightly turned the hot water knob a little more with his eyes closed.
The bathroom just felt colder.
He rinsed himself off and was startled when he opened his eyes and saw a dark silhouette standing on the other side of the curtain.
He became angry. He opened the shower curtains.
A scream was heard. Choking sounds came from the bathroom and then silence.
A moment later the shower turns off and he walks out of the bathroom. He cracks his neck, adjusting to his new body. Slides on his black sweats, t-shirt and hoodie.
Grabbed his keys from his dresser, looked in the mirror and fixed his beard. He notices the tattoos on his face and smiles. His eyes went from dark to light in just a blink. Off to work he goes.
7am – Your Driver has arrived.
She grabbed her jacket and book bag and the keys that were hanging on the hook. She took a quick glance in the mirror, fixed her hair, and walked out. She looked at the Driver app and saw her ride was right in front of her building. “Perfect”.
She opened the car door and the strong aroma of men’s cologne tickled her nose.
“Smells good in here.” Was her greeting when she settled in.
No response from the Driver.
“Ok, he’s the silent type, no biggie.”
He pressed the start destination button on his GPS and proceeded to drive.
She puts on her headphones and plays her favorite podcast. She stared at the scenery out the window. It was a beautiful spring morning.
Ding! Her phone chimed. A text message came in from Trish.
She frowns at her phone. “This is the only girl I know that loves texting this early in the damn morning“. She thought to herself as she texted back her sister.
Her focus was now on her phone.
The driver noticed a change in the route she was taking on his screen. A new destination was added. He frowned.
Looks like she added a stop.
“Hey sorry about that, I have to stop and pick up my sister, we work at the same location. Hope that’s ok.”
He looks at her through the rearview mirror and smirks. He presses the ok button and makes a right at the next light.
“We’re headed to your destination now. Next time let me know ahead of time, you know how I hate doing last-minute shit.” she texted Trish back.
“My bad sissy, won’t happen again,” Trish replied.
She leaned her head on the car window and continued looking out at the scenery.
She began to slowly doze into sleep.
Little did she know the driver released some sort of gas that smelled like that cologne she smelled.
…..
She opened her eyes as she felt the car go over a large bump. As she adjusted her vision to the scenery her phone vibrated, it was Trish.
“If you didn’t want to pick me up you could have just said that and not made me wait, and now I’m super late, thanks!”
“What the fuck?” She thought to herself. She looked at the time on her phone, she’d been in the cab for over an hour. All she saw was trees and a dirt road. She panicked, and her heart sank into the pit of her stomach. She looked at the driver saw his eyes through the rearview mirror and screamed. His eyes were pitched black as he continued looking at the road.
She didn’t notice the man sitting beside her. He was breathing heavily.
She was terrified.
The man had insanely wide eyes just staring at her, his eyelids seemed to be stuck open, fresh bloody stitches on his face.
“Do.. do you know where we are going?” The man continues to stare her down. The sense of panic became intense.
“He has a new destination for you, we’ll be arriving shortly.”
His tone was unsettling.
The driver was driving over the speed limit so jumping out the car was out of the question. She had no idea where she was.
She looked at her phone, she no longer had service.
“Fuck” she cried. “Let me oouuttt” she screamed.
The driver sped up and the man sitting next to her moved closer to her, he tried to cover her mouth but she fought him off. She kicked the man in the stomach. As he pulled back from the pain he tried grabbing her legs.
“You’ll never get out,” the man whispered.
She kept kicking and struggling with the man until she kicked him hard enough that his back slammed against the closed car door and it opened up wide. The man screamed in terror as he flew out of the car and his body rolled onto the ground.
The driver stopped the car abruptly. Her body jerked in the back seat. The back door still open, she found her opportunity to escape.
The driver came out of the car and started chasing her. She looked back and saw him getting closer. His eyes were pitched black, he was angry.
The man that flew out of the car was on his feet now. He was blocking her way to escape.
Now she was stuck between the driver and the strange man with nowhere to go. They were crouched low like if they were hunting her, she was their prey.
They circled around her and made attack moves to scare and taunt her.
She spotted a stick nearby and quickly grabbed it. She swung the stick at the strange man as he lunged at her. She struck him in the face and he yelped like a dog. The driver came up behind her grabbed her shoulders and spun her around to face him.
His eyes were as dark as an abyss. There was no soul left in them.
She was terrified.
He pushed her onto the ground and climbed on her. He looked at her, examining her face, and then slowly opened his mouth. Black smoke was escaping from his mouth and nose. She screamed as he tried to inject the smoke from his mouth into hers. She tried fighting him off but he was too strong.
“Get off me” she screamed.
The Strange man stood above her head looking down at them. A maniacal laugh escaped his mouth.
“I told you he had a new destination for you”, he laughed uncontrollably.
“STOP!, Get off her” a female voice came from a few feet away.
The driver stopped and looked back. Black smoke still escaping his mouth and nose.
It was the police and Trish.
“Put your hands where I can see them” The cop held out his gun, pointing at the strange man.
The driver turned and snarled at the cop and leaped like an animal ready to attack him. He shot one bullet into the driver and he fell to the ground.
The strange man ran off into the dark woods.
Trish ran to her sister.
“I’m so glad you kept your location on, that’s how I was able to find you.” She hugged her sister.
“The driver, his eyes, his eyes were dark and evil like he had no soul.” She was shaken up.
Trish turned around to look at the man lying on the ground but… he was gone.
All that was left was a trail of black liquid leading into the woods.

“What are you doing?” The cop asked the woman who was sitting in the middle of her cell floor. She didn’t respond.
She was sitting in the center of her jail cell, mumbling something. It sounded like she was… praying.
The cop asked her again but this time he banged his baton on the cell bars.
“Hey! I asked you a question. What are you doing?”
As she opened her eyes the lights in the cell flickered. She angrily stared at the cop. He took a step back.
“Alright, my bad. I won’t interrupt again.”
A few minutes later another cop walked into the station.
“Hey Ledda! What’s up with that girl in cell block D? The one at the very end?”
“What are you talking about? What’s wrong with her?”
“She’s in her cell sitting on the floor and she’s whispering weird shit. I don’t know if she’s praying or not but she creeps me out.” Mike shivered a bit.
“A girl creeps you out?” Officer Ledda chuckled.
“The lights flickered when she looked at me dude.”
Officer Ledda looked at Officer Mike and shook his head. “Come on, let’s take a walk to her cell. It’s her last night on earth anyway. Tomorrow she gets injected and bye bye bye to her.”
They started walking towards the cell block.
“Why is she getting Injected?, what the hell did she do?”
“Oh, you don’t know?” Officer Ledda chuckled again.
“She’s killed 4 of her boyfriends because they’ve found out she’s a looney bin and no longer wanted to be with her. She had an obsession with every man she’s been with. Cops from another department found weird shit in her home barricaded in a closet. I’m talking about pictures of these men sleeping, in the shower, walking to and from work, shopping. She had their belongings in there too, underwear, razors, colognes and strands of hair. She had the pictures pinned to the wall with strange messages scribbled on them and eventually killed them.
I’m talking about severely murdered, mutilated the bodies until no recognition. The last dude she was with, he would of been number 5 but he actually got away.”
“Lucky guy” Officer Mike said while rubbing his hair.
They opened up the cell block door. It was eerily quiet. Both cops were hesitant to walk through.
“Go ahead Mike.” Officer Mike looked up at Officer Ledda with a look of concern.
“After all that shit you just told me you’re expecting me to walk down there first? You must me outta your mind.”
Officer Ledda sighed and walked in front of Officer Mike. Officer Mike closed the cell block door behind him and walked behind Officer Ledda, flashlight shinning, the lights were oddly dim.
Suddenly, some arms popped out of the last cell on the right hand side of the cell block.
Both officers jumped and drew their guns.
“Hello officers!” A smooth voice came from the cell.
“Came to pay the weirdo a visit?”
She stood at about 5’8, dark caramel skin, short length dark hair, pink plump lips and a smile that could kill. She was stunning.
“Just making sure you’re good little lady, you gave my buddy here quite a scare earlier.” Officer Ledda chuckled and gave Mike a elbow shove.
“A scare? What ever do you mean?” She had a sly smile, she knew exactly what she did.
“My friend here said you made the lights flicker and was whispering some mumbo jumbo, so we came here to prove to him that you’re just a regular girl waiting for your punishment.” Officer Ledda looked at the girl with a smirk across his lips.
“Oh! I made the lights flicker? And I scared you by doing that?” She laughed, making fun of Officer Mike. She look at them both, her stare now serious, menacing. She pulled her arms back from cell bars and walked backwards towards the center of the cell. The lights flickered again and this time they saw the girls eyes turn completely black.
“You see man, I told you something was up with her.” Mike was the first one running towards the cell block door.
Suddenly a loud metal sound came from behind the officers. Officer Ledda looked back as he was closing the cell block door. In the flicker of the lights, crawling on the ceiling, staring at the two officers was the girl. She escaped from her cell.
“Go Mike Go!” Both officers ran and stumbled upon each other. Officer Ledda turned around and drew his gun but only saw the girl back in her cell. She sat on the edge of her bed, legs crossed, hands folded holding her knee. She waved and smiled at Officer Ledda.
He walked out the cell block backwards, gun still drawn.
“Mike, get on the phone and call Mr. Guerrero. I need to ask him some questions about this girl.”
Mr. Guerrero..
He walks into his home after coming in from work. He looks around and sighs with relief. Kicks off his shoes, grabs a glass of water and sits in the living room.
He whispers to himself.. “She’s finally gone.”
He’s very aware that she’s up for the death penalty but the waiting game just began. To wait and see when it will happen. He can’t believe he was with her for so long. He saw the signs but kept being in denial. He knew she wasn’t right, something was off about her.
He would hear her talk to herself late at night. Feel a cold breeze when it was clearly warm in the house. Once he thought he heard someone else talking to her in the house and saw no one. He would see shadows in their bedroom. Things would randomly disappear and reappear somewhere else. Ever since she’s been gone, the house feels lighter, brighter even.
He plays some tunes on his phone and connects his Bluetooth speaker.
He hops in the shower. As he’s lathering up he feels a cool breeze coming from behind him, notices that the shower curtains slightly moves. He quickly shoves the curtains to the side but No one is there.
“I’m bugging out” he chuckles to himself.
His phone suddenly rings.
“Hello”..
“Yea is this Mr. Guerrero?”
“Yea, who’s this?”
“This is Officer Mike from the 66th precinct, the one who arrested your girlfriend”.
“Ex girlfriend” he corrected.
“Yea.. her.. we need you to come down to the station, we have some questions to ask you.”
“I thought the investigation was over and done with”
“Oh, it is. This is off the record. We just experienced some weird shit with her so we just have questions that need answers.”
Rafael looked at his phone and frowned.
“I’m on my way”.
At the station..
“How can I help you Officer?” Mr. Guerrero approached the main desk.
“Follow me this way Mr. Guerrero.” They walked into a small office with a medium size table and 3 chairs. Officer Ledda was already in the office.
Office Mike and Mr. Guerrero sat down across from each other.
“Mr. Guerrero!” Officer Ledda stated.
“Call me Rafael please”
“Sorry, Rafael. We have some , um, concerns about your ex girlfriend here and we were wondering if you knew anything about this.”
Ledda and Mike glanced at each other.
“What’s the concern? Isn’t she getting the death penalty?”
“Oh yea she is but that won’t be for a couple of days.
Rafael shuffled in his seat.
“So why am I here?”
“Rafael, uuhh, have you ever had any strange experiences with this young lady?”
“Strange experiences?” Rafael was confused.
“Yea like, I don’t know how to explain it. She’s a strange girl. She made the lights flicker man.” Officer Mike expressed. Ledda looked at him and frowned.
Rafael moved back into his chair.
“She is definitely strange.” He agreed. “Oh so you do know something?” Ledda asked.
“Yea she used to weird me out most of the time while we were together.”
The lights flickered in the office.
“She used to stare at me while I slept. One night I woke up to her right above me, it felt like she was floating. Freaked me out.”
“Floating?” Ledda seemed perplexed.
“Yea, I don’t know. Whenever we argued she would stalk me on the way to work, follow me and hide behind trees. One time I spotted her and she ran away from me and dropped something, when I picked it up it was a doll that looked exactly like me. I think she was doing witchcraft or voodoo on me. Some night I couldn’t sleep, I’ll have vivid dreams or her torturing me and I would wake up screaming and panting and with bruises on my skin. My bedroom door would be closed and I knew I would close it before bed and it would be wide open when I woke up.”
The lights flickered again.
All three men looked around the office while the lights flickered a bit quicker now.
Officer Ledda’s chair flew back while he was still sitting and hit the wall.
Officer Mike tried getting up from his chair but couldn’t. He was stuck to it.
“This is her, she has to be doing this!” Rafael exclaimed. He was the only one able to move so he ran to the door but it wouldn’t open up. He tried jiggling the knob but it wouldn’t budge.
“Somebody help!, open up the door!!!” He banged as hard as he could and then all the lights went out.
It’s was quiet for a moment.. but then,
Commotion was heard from the other side of the door. Loud screams, running, shooting. Shrieks of pain. Something slammed up against the door so hard that it shook.
It seemed like an eternity for everything to stop and then it abruptly did.
The men in the office slowly turned their heads and looked at each other.
“You think..?” Officer Mike looked panicked.
“You think she caused that chaos?”
“She did.” Rafael confirmed, he was sure of it.
Suddenly the office door slowly opened on it’s own. A bloody body fell into the room. The men stepped back and glanced at each other. Officer Ledda frowned.
The silence was eerie.
The men slowly walked over the body laying on the floor and into the precinct dark hallway. The red emergency lights were on, didn’t make it less creepier for them to walk through.
Officer Ledda drew his gun and kept Rafael in between him and Officer Mike, who looked more pale than normal.
They crouched down a bit, walking over broken glass, blood, dead bodies.
In the distance they heard what seemed like a cell door slamming shut.
The lights were flickering all through the station so it was hard to see what they were walking into.
Rafael grabbed Detective Mike’s arm.
He nodded with his head towards down the hall.
“Ledda” Mike whispered.
“I see it” Ledda’s gun was drawn pointing at the figure down the hall. As the lights flickered the figure kept coming closer. It looked like it was running towards them.
“Go, go, go” they ran back towards the office they came out.
“What the hell was that?” Officer Ledda asked while jogging down the hall.
“It was her, it had to be her”
As they reached the office the door quickly slammed.
“SHIT!” Rafael shoulder rushed the door but It wouldn’t budge.
Officer Ledda turned around to see where the girl was.
“Where’s Mike?” He asked Rafael.
They both began to yell out for him.
“MIKE! WHERE’D YOU GO MAN?!.. MIKE!!!”
Mike’s body was abruptly dropped from out of nowhere onto the floor, blood splatter from his eyes, nose, ears and mouth.
“He’s fucking dead” Rafael yelled, backing away from the body. He slipped on some blood and fell on his back.
Officer Ledda rushed over to Rafael and tried helping him up. Rafael extended his hand out but quickly retracted it.
“What are you doing? Give me your hand.”
Officer Ledda looked at Rafael, squinted a bit and noticed that Rafael wasn’t looking at him but was lookin behind him. His face was terrifying. Officer Ledda slowly turned his body to face whatever was behind him.
She was staring directly at him. Hanging upside down from the ceiling she looked possessed. Her eyes were yellow, drool mixed with blood dripped from her mouth.
Officer Ledda was frozen in place. She hissed and rapidly crawled to him and latched her teeth on to his face.
He screamed in agony. Blood spewed from his cheek as she yanked a piece of meat from it. She jumped in him until he fell. He dropped his gun. He reached for his gun and spun around to shoot her but she was gone.
“Where’d she go?” He was out of breath.
They both looked on opposite sides of the hallway they were in. Rafael saw a dark shadow walk around the corner. “She’s that way” he said as he pointed in that direction.
Rafael grabbed Mike’s gun and carefully stepped over his body.
“Rafael” he heard a low whisper from behind him. Spun around, pointed his gun and shot at nothing. Officer Ledda looked at him. “Don’t let her get into your head man.”
On this moment of weakness she took advantage and rushed Officer Ledda off his feet and flung his body left and right again the walls. She laughed historically, maniacally.
Rafael shot his gun and hit her right in the middle of her forehead. She dropped to the floor, chunks of her brain were splattered everywhere. Officer Ledda dropped as well. He was conscious but in severe pain.
“Did you get her?” He grunted. “Yea, I got her.”
That night Rafael returned home. He stood in the shower and thought about everything that went on that evening. He was finally able to live again. She finally gone for good. He turned on the news and watched the reporter speak about the events that just happened a few hours ago. It felt surreal.
He turned his TV off, double checked his apartment door and went to bed. Peaceful night.
Morning..
His alarm clock went off at 8am. He rubbed his eyes and stretched his arm to turn it off but felt something in the way. He shot his eyes open and screamed.
“I told you, you can’t ever leave me.”
